NILAG PROGRAMS for 2016

Unless otherwise noted, all meetings are held at the PNC Bank, 250 E. Roosevelt Rd, Wheaton Illinois, Lower level meeting room.  Please use the lower level parking area.  Meetings are 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The bank opens at 9:00 AM.

February 6, 2016:  “Organize Your Sewing Room!”

From notions to fabrics, scraps and unfinished projects, this presentation will cover it all!  Beth Randall, a professional organizer will explain exactly how to tackle your organization project from start to finish with great storage ideas.  You will be motivated to organize your sewing room so you can do what you love to do — be creative and quilt!  http://bethrandall.org/
 

April 2, 2016:  “Moving Smoothly Through Your Day”

Join us for a spa day as Lee Anne Clarbour, a licensed massage therapist, will explain and demonstrate how posture alignment, stretching and the use of props can refresh and rejuvenate your body and mind, ease the stress of overuse and keep you quilting longer! 

June 4, 2016 "What was I Thinking"
Nancy McNally talks about design, piecing, and quilt finishing choices as she shares her trunk show featuring many quilts from her collection and includes her newest patterns. She will touch on her quilting adventures as her path has taken her from quilter to pattern designer & longarmer.  Nancy’s work has been featured in Love of Quilting, Scrap Quilts, Quilter’s World, and Quiltmaker  magazines.  She has been a guest on the PBS TV show “Quilting Arts” and has three online classes through Annie’s Craft Store.  Her class “Whole Cloth Collage Quilting” was featured in the March/April issue of Quilting Arts magazine. 

August 6, 2016:  “Quilters Schoolhouse”

August means Back to School!  Gather in our classroom as the bell rings!  Our own NILAG instructors will share their knowledge and teach you new techniques, tricks & tips that will put you at the head of the class!

December 3, 2016:  “Color in a Supporting Role”

Using examples of his own work as well as images of art, sculpture, architecture, garden design, and product and package design, Bill Kerr from Modern Quilt Studio will explain the role of color in design.  Bill will show how great quilts (ranging from traditional to contemporary) use color to support a “Big Idea” or design intention.

On Dec 5th 2015, members of the NILAG, Northern Illinois Longarm Guild gathered for a Holiday Get Together.  There was food, games and eye candy in the form of lots of Show And Tell.






On August 1st 2015, the guild's speaker was Pat Barry.  Pat is the author of the ABC's of Quilting,  a Longarm and Statler.  In addition to teaching, writing and designing new product, Pat quilts professionally for others. Here are some photos of Pat's collection of quilts.

Julie is a local area quilter that kept us busy with her "top 40 Freehand Overalls" We spent a beautiful June morning, drawing  swirls, pebbles, and branching designs.




 
The Skill Builder for June was feathers around applique.

Quilter's Rule at NILAG


The April 2015 meeting brought us Patricia Simons from Quilters Rule http://www.quiltersrule.com/

Patricia gave a hands-on drawing demo using longarm templates and rulers.  We learned how to use simple shapes to create a large number of quilting designs.  Some of what Patricia covered can be seen on her YouTube channel  https://www.youtube.com/user/QuiltersRuleIntl

Show and Tell from Feb 2015 Meeting


On February 7, 2015  members of NILAG (the Northern Illinois Longarm Guild) came together for a "Share it Saturday".  Members that attended the Machine Quilters Exposition  (MQX) that was held in September 2014, shared what information about their favorite LongArm instructors.  There was also lots of show and tell.
